Medical Science Liaison (MSL)

Position Summary

The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based scientific professional responsible for building collaborative relationships with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, researchers, and other external stakeholders. The MSL facilitates compliant scientific exchange, communicates clinical and scientific information, and provides field insights that support the organization’s medical strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, investigators, and other scientific stakeholders.
  • Conduct accurate, balanced, and non-promotional scientific discussions regarding disease states, clinical research, and available medical evidence.
  • Deliver scientific presentations to healthcare professionals and other appropriate audiences.
  • Respond to unsolicited medical and scientific inquiries in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Identify and communicate emerging clinical trends, healthcare-provider insights, and educational needs to internal stakeholders.
  • Support advisory boards, congresses, investigator meetings, medical education programs, and other scientific activities.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial colleagues as appropriate.
  • Support clinical research initiatives through investigator engagement, site education, and communication of relevant study information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the therapeutic area, scientific literature, treatment landscape, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Document field activities and stakeholder interactions in accordance with company policies and compliance requirements.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities, required training, and expense reporting within established timelines.
  • Travel throughout the assigned territory as business needs require.

Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree preferred, such as a PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, DNP, or equivalent degree.
  • Previous experience in Medical Affairs, clinical research, healthcare, or the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry preferred.
  • Strong scientific communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex clinical and scientific information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a field-based environment while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable pharmaceutical industry regulations and compliance standards preferred.
  • Ability to travel as required, including occasional overnight and weekend travel.

Work Environment

This is a field-based position supporting an assigned geographic territory. The role may require frequent interaction with healthcare professionals, attendance at scientific meetings, and travel based on business needs.
