Senior Manager, Medical Communications
Summary
The Senior Manager, Medical Communications is responsible for developing and executing strategic medical communication plans that effectively convey scientific and value-based information to key audiences, including healthcare professionals, healthcare decision makers, and internal teams. This role involves creating and overseeing the production of scientific resources, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) materials, and congress-related content. The position requires a blend of scientific expertise, strategic insight, and communication skills to ensure consistent, high-quality, and compliant materials that align with medical strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Impact
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the overall medical communications strategy, including creation of materials and tools supporting medical and HEOR objectives.
- Support the planning and execution of congress-related activities and resources.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment with medical strategy, market access perspectives, and customer insights.
- Apply clinical and HEOR expertise to develop scientifically accurate and impactful communication resources.
Execution
- Develop, review, and maintain medical affairs materials (clinical and HEOR) used to support scientific exchange with healthcare professionals and decision makers.
- Coordinate and review content for medical congresses, ensuring consistency and compliance.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of medical training resources for internal teams.
- Evaluate and integrate internal and external scientific and HEOR data into communication materials.
- Create and refine scientific narratives and messaging consistent with strategic objectives.
- Manage vendor partnerships, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Oversee material submission and review processes in document management systems, ensuring timely incorporation of reviewer feedback.
- Conduct literature searches and evaluate relevant scientific publications to inform communications.
Education and Experience
- Advanced degree in a scientific discipline required (Master’s minimum; PharmD, PhD, or MD preferred).
- At least 4 years of experience in medical communications or scientific writing within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical communications industry.
- Experience in Medical Affairs or HEOR is preferred; fellowship experience in Medical Communications or Medical Affairs is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of clinical development, evidence generation, and HEOR principles.
- Familiarity with U.S. compliance and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, OPDP, PhRMA Code, Sunshine Act, GPP).
- Proven ability to develop MSL tools, HEOR decks, FAQs, and congress materials.
- Excellent scientific writing, editing, and storytelling skills; ability to translate complex data into clear, engaging messages.
- Strong project and vendor management capabilities; adept at prioritizing multiple projects under tight timelines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and document review platforms (e.g., Veeva Vault).
- Demonstrated collaboration across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, HEOR, Regulatory, and Commercial teams.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills for literature evaluation and evidence synthesis.
- Flexible, proactive, and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Therapeutic area knowledge in pain management, anesthesia, or surgical disciplines preferred.
