Medical Science Liaison – North Central Region
A growing biopharmaceutical organization is seeking a field-based Medical Science Liaison to support its North Central territory. This individual will serve as a scientific expert and trusted partner to healthcare professionals, investigators, and other external stakeholders.
The MSL will facilitate compliant, evidence-based scientific exchange, support clinical development activities, and translate complex data into meaningful clinical insights. This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative Medical Affairs professional who enjoys building scientific partnerships and contributing to a developing therapeutic area strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and maintain credible scientific relationships with key opinion leaders, investigators, and healthcare professionals.
- Conduct balanced, non-promotional scientific exchange aligned with Medical Affairs objectives.
- Deliver approved medical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, formulary committees, and other appropriate audiences.
- Respond accurately and promptly to unsolicited medical information requests.
- Support advisory boards, speaker training, internal scientific education, and other Medical Affairs initiatives.
- Partner with Clinical Operations to identify and evaluate prospective investigators and clinical trial sites.
- Provide scientific education and protocol-specific training to investigators and site personnel.
- Maintain ongoing engagement with research sites to address scientific questions and support successful study execution.
- Attend relevant medical congresses and scientific meetings to monitor emerging data and therapeutic-area trends.
- Develop pre-conference plans, engage appropriate external experts, and provide actionable post-conference insights to internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to scientific slide decks, FAQs, medical information response documents, and educational materials.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Legal, and other cross-functional partners to ensure scientific accuracy and compliance.
- Document field activities and stakeholder insights accurately and in accordance with organizational policies.
- Lead or contribute to strategic field medical projects, peer mentorship, and scientific training initiatives, depending on experience.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific or clinical degree, such as a PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- At least two years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience in an MSL or comparable Medical Affairs role.
- Experience in sleep medicine, neurology, pulmonology, or a related therapeutic area is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical and scientific information.
- Strong presentation, written communication, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Proven success developing credible relationships with thought leaders, investigators, and cross-functional colleagues.
- Working knowledge of clinical trial design, drug development, regulatory requirements, and industry standards governing medical interactions.
- Ability to work independently while aligning field activities with broader Medical Affairs and organizational priorities.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that satisfies company requirements.
Compensation and benefits
The anticipated annual base salary range is $175,000–$215,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and other relevant factors.
The position may also include eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including health and welfare coverage, retirement benefits, paid time off, and wellness programs.
